From 1 May 2026, the Australian Government plan to change how rebates work under the Cheaper Home Batteries Program. You can read more about the proposed changes here.
This means that installing your home battery by 30 April will get you a higher rebate discount per kWh, versus waiting until later in the year. It also means that now is a great time to get your quote sorted, so you've got the best chance of securing your install before the proposed rebate reduction on May 1, 2026.
Remember: your rebate discount is locked in on the day your battery is installed, so timing matters.
Below is a quick summary of how the proposed changes could affect your battery rebate. Under the new structure, larger batteries will get a lower rebate per kWh than smaller systems.
This means that installing a 40 kWh battery before 30 April 2026 could deliver a rebate up to $5,904 higher than installing after that date.

There are a few steps involved to plan for your system quote and install, so now is a great time to get started. The sooner we're able to confirm your quote, the better your chance of securing install by 30 April. Here's a quick guide, however final timings will depend on your and our installers availability.
Being prepared is the best tip to help speed up the process. Think about the questions you might want to ask, have your diary handy so we can book in your Site Assessment and/or Install, and think about where you want your battery to go (read our tips here.)
Here's an example of how one of our customers, Jerry, helped to reduce his process from 10 weeks to 6.
